Monticello Freedom Celebration

July 2, 2011

Bring on the heat! We have heard from local residents that Monticello Days has the best city festival, fireworks and car show in all of east central Illinois. So we were sure to make it to as many different events as we could despite the heat! Of course Monticello Days had to take place when the heat index was 117 degrees! However, we didn't let the heat stop us from having a good time. Charlee enjoyed the tractor pull (even though she didn't quite know how to pedal) and both Charlee and Van loved watching the tractors in the parade, listening to bands play on the square, and their balloon animals. The parade got to a point where they were actually sick of getting up to get the candy in the road that was being thrown at them. Unlike Utah parades, where kids are neck and neck pushing and shoving, holding their buckets, bags and whatever else to get the most candy from a parade, this parade was so mellow! There was plenty of space for the kids, and MORE than enough candy for them. It was definitely my kind of parade!
